La zona sur-austral de Chile y gran parte de América Latina basan su economía en la explotación y uso de sus recursos naturales. Nuestra sociedad necesita, con urgencia creciente, estimular la reflexión académica y la investigación científica que permita construir nuevos marcos conceptuales y enfoques productivos y de gestión que permitan avanzar hacia el anhelado desarrollo sustentable.
Nuestro programa busca formar especialistas y científicos del más alto nivel que, dotados de una sólida base teórica, puedan contribuir a la búsqueda de soluciones a los problemas relacionados con la conservación, manejo y uso del ambiente y de sus recursos vivos. Iniciamos esta tarea en el año 2006, con la creación del Magister en Ciencias, mención Producción, Manejo y Conservación de Recursos Naturales, maestría acreditada (8 años), que ya cuenta con un importante número de egresados colaborando en instituciones públicas y privadas de Chile y Latinoamérica. A partir del año 2013, desarrollamos un nuevo esfuerzo docente, creando el Doctorado en Ciencias, mención Conservación y Manejo de Recursos Naturales, cuya quinta promoción se encuentra cursando ya su primer año académico.

Southern Chile as with much of Latina America bases its economy on the exploitation and use of natural resources. Our society needs, with increasing urgency, to stimulate academic interest and scientific research that will permit us to construct new conceptual frameworks and productive lines of research with the objective of sustainable development.
Our graduate program has the objective of producing specialists and scientists of the highest level, built on a solid theoretical foundation, capable of contributing to the search for solutions to the problems of the conservation, management and use of the environment and its living resources. We started this program in 2006, with the creation of the Masters Program in the Production, Management and Conservation of Natural Resources, currently accredited for 8 years (2015 - 2023). This program has produced a number of graduates now working at institutions, both public and private, in Chile and elsewhere in Latin America, in the area of Natural Resources. Starting in 2012 we established a Doctoral Program in the Conservation and Management of Natural Resources, now in its fifth year the first generation of students are preparing to defend their theses.
